VibroAcoustic Therapy »

VibroAcoustic Therapy (VAT) is condensed music and language vibrations, wherein all elements  which can carry emotion and information are concentrated into one single tone. The elements are: Pitch (Frequency), Duration (Rhythm), Dynamic (Volume) and Timbre (Tone quality).

It is a form of non-invasive cost effective treatment procedure where sinusoidal low frequency sound vibration (30 - 120 Hz) combined with relaxing music transferred directly to the human body using transducers. Research and clinical programs in Europe and USA reported that VibroAcoustic Therapy provides a wide variety of mental and physical benefits.

In contrast to music which is connected with auditory perception and stimulation, VAT is aimed primarily for direct communication with the nervous system, muscle tissue, bones, glands and fluids of the body of mammals.  Sound is transferred as vibrations in solid matter, liquids or gases. Our bodies consist of these elements and thus are perfect carrier of sound vibrations. During VAT sound is transferred directly to the body surface from transducers. The distance from transducers to the skin surface is virtually non-existent, and there is no energy loss as we get energy transmission via air. VAT is a whole body vibration treatment.

The sound waves transfer movement energy to the surface of the body, but it also means that matter inside the body receives vibrations. All molecules inside the body have been put in motion. All cells inside the body have been vibrated by the sound waves which move through the body. We can look upon it this way: The body has received "internal massage". Thus organs in the body which we cannot reach by traditional methods - nerves, glands, lungs, heart, deep-lying blood vessels, and brain tissue - will react when being exposed to sound vibrations.

Noise pollution is well known as a stressor in our environment. There is good stress and bad stress. The sound frequencies in VAT transfer good stress to the body, and will relax both body and soul, even if the VAT soundtrack is a pure technical vibration. Soft monotony will often bring the user into a meditative state, and the sense of time disappears. All parts of the body receive the same amount of vibrations simultaneously as we are lying on a transducer-filled bedpad 200 cm long. Empirically we now have found the most effective frequencies which may have positive influence on certain defined health related conditions.

Daily stress makes our cells acidic, and we cannot fill the cells up to optimal oxygen level. These traces of stress will be stored as waste products in cells and blood vessels which may, in time, lead to serious consequences for our health. Low frequency sound vibrations through VAT may contribute to clean the cells, increase oxidation and reduce acidation.

The optimal environment for fetal development is found in the uterus. The child is floating in the amniotic fluid, well protected. The fluid transfers the sound vibrations to the entire body surface of the unborn child. These vibrations are in turn transferred to all internal cells of the child by normal sound conduction. There is no evidence that such sound vibrations are not just as beneficial for grown-ups as they are for unborn children.

We have the immediate effect of the vibrations on our vasomotoric system. These are, to a certain degree decisive for our changes in mood. The vibrational experiences have special – hitherto unnoticed - tasks. Used properly according to protocol, VAT has (carefully spoken) at least a palliative function. This is in itself sensible. The effect usually stays considerably longer than one could expect. Help of this character ought to find its place alongside of the psychopharmacology which is so much advertised by the pharmaceutical industry. To underestimate this will be a great mistake.

As a result of more than 40 years research and development on treatment by harmonious sound wave patterns, VAT equipment is now approved medical device and the therapy is being used in hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, old people’s homes, health clubs and alternative and complementary clinics in several countries around the world.

To summarize, VibroAcoustic Therapy is an enjoyable experience. It relaxes our body and makes us feel good about ourselves. It relieves anxiety and pain.  It decreases spasticity; it increases blood circulation; it relaxes muscles and reduces respiratory distress. And it does all these without any side effect found in drugs.
